Can I plug my oven into a normal socket?
Do single electric ovens need to be hardwired?
The electrical requirements for single electric ovens can vary depending on the specific model and local electrical codes. In many cases, single electric ovens do not necessarily need to be hardwired. They can be either hardwired or connected using a suitable power cord and plugged into a dedicated electrical outlet.
Ovens under 3000 watts
Electric ovens have a wattage rating that tells you how much power they use. For ovens under 3000 watts, it is perfectly acceptable to power them using a regular 13 amp plug and socket. In most cases (but not all, every home is different), this should mean any plug socket is fair game.
Most of the ovens we sell can be plugged into a normal wall socket with a 13a plug and some ovens have a plug already fitted.
If you want to check on your own oven, then look for the data badge on the oven and if the total power is less than 3000 watts then it’s fine to plug in. The badge is usually located on the oven door frame and will look something towards the example below:
Ovens over 3000 watts
When it comes to larger ovens with advanced features and higher power requirements, it's important to note that they typically have a rating exceeding 3000 watts, which makes them unsuitable for a standard 13-amp wall socket. These ovens require a dedicated hardwired connection to your home's electrical network and necessitate their own isolated breaker or fuse. This is where the expertise of qualified electricians becomes essential.

A pyrolytic oven is a self-cleaning appliance that utilises high temperatures to incinerate food residue and grease, eliminating the need for manual scrubbing. During the cleaning cycle, which reaches temperatures as high as 400 to 500 degrees Celsius, the oven locks its door and converts organic matter into ash.
